Program participants will be treated to a welcome reception at SDWAC Board Member Gina Ing’s Usaquen colonial home, followed by a traditional Colombian dinner and a private Colombian dance and music demonstration!
You’ll spend the morning discovering the colonial town of Usaquén during a guided, historical tour. In the
afternoon visit the Gold Museum and be treated to an interactive lecture on the historical significance of gold in
the region.
After breakfast, we’ll head to the headquarters of Colombia’s International Rescue Committee (IRC) for a
behind the scenes tour of their facilities and a presentation with their leadership and staff before rolling up
our shirt sleeves and getting involved in their work firsthand. Evening of unstructured free time.
After a morning visit to historical landmarks Monserrate and La Candelaria, program participants will be
treated to an interactive Colombian cooking lesson and enjoy the fruits of our labor!
You’ll start the day learning about the history of U.S.- Colombia relations during a special meeting with faculty
at the University of Los Andes. In the afternoon you’ll take a tour of Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira. Evening of
unstructured free time. Evening dinner for the group will be at the renowned restaurant, Andre Carne de Res!
After settling into the hotel, you’ll visit San Felipe Castle, the largest Spanish fortress in South America. In the
evening take a horse carriage tour of the colonial center before enjoying a dinner at Restaurante Gobernador.
Be the change you want to see in the world! Today you’ll engage youth and learn about the social and
economic challenges that are impacting the community while serving at SOS Children’s Village.
The morning will be yours to continue your exploration of Cartagena on your own, relax, or enjoy some free
time for shopping excursions. A special, surprise group “Farewell Dinner” is planned for the night!
Travelers should plan on arranging their own departure after the official close of the program at 11am.
